Acquiring Ray Allen is probably the best trade the Celtics have made in recent history. I’ve been an Allen and Paul Pierce fan for a long time, and am really looking forward to seeing these two guys play together. Both have been underrated in the hobby their entire careers, due to poor team performances (despite their strong individual play - Allen with a career average of 21.5 ppg and Pierce 23.6 ppg).

I expect that we’ll see an increased interest in both players’ key RC year cards once the season starts. Allen’s best base RC is his 96-97 Topps Chrome. He also has a couple RC year Autos, like his 96-97 Skybox Autographics & Emerald Auto. My favorite Pierce RC is his 98-99 SPx Finite #’d 2500. He only has ONE RC year Auto; 98-99 Topps Autographs, which is very tough to find (I haven’t seen any in the last year or so listed for sale).

Now might be a good time to pick up some of these cards, if you can find them at good TAC price levels. No matter what, the Celtics will be a better team next season, and they’ll be much more exciting to watch!
