I would say that Alex Rodriguez is, hands down, the undisputed 2007 AL MVP. On top of hitting a career high in RBI, SLG and OPS, he’s led the Yankees to a 32-16 record through August & September (through 9/22), allowing them to get within 1.5 games of the AL East-leading Red Sox; a long ways from being 13.5 games back at the end of May. The Yankees are 10-8 against Boston this season, and if Manny Ramirez isn’t back on the field at 100% for the post -season, New York should be looking at their first championship since the Subway Series in ’00.
As everyone knows, Rodriguez isn’t known for his strong post-season play. I think that if he can do his thing beyond the month of September this year, his cards will reach uncharted heights. His 94 SP RC has shown monthly TAC average selling prices between $85 & $105 since July. If his offensive onslaught can continue next month, I wouldn’t be surprised to see his SP RC averaging in the $130-150 range. His 94 SP Die-Cut has already been on the rise for the past few months, averaging around $97 in June, $107 in July, $111 in August, and $135 so far in September. This one could possibly reach the $160-180 range. His 04 Leaf Limited Rookie Phenoms #’d 5000 is averaging $430 this month, up from $294 in August.
It’ll be very interesting to see if A Rod can break his trend of absentee performances in the post-season this year, and truly become the MVP that everyone thinks that he can be.
