Brady Quinn McFarlane is a Reach
July 5th, 2007McFarlane unveiled NFL Series 16 the other day. Overall, it looks like a great series with much needed first figures for Champ Bailey and Frank Gore, combined with a new LT figure, and repaints of Steve McNair and Terrell Owens in new uni’s. It’s a formula that’s worked well for McFarlane. But I have to question the Brady Quinn figure. Sure it’s nice to mix some new blood into the set, but Quinn? I can name 21 draftees (sic) that should have figures ahead of Quinn!

In all seriousness though, what was McFarlane thinking? I know that Brady is America’s golden boy and that Notre Dame and the Browns have rabid fans, but he was the 22nd Pick and probably will be behind Derek Anderson AND Charlie Frye on opening day. How about #1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, who has a much better chance of starting from Day 1…and also has a crazed following from LSU and Raider fans. Or Calvin Johnson, whose talent makes Terrell Owens look like Brendan Stokely by comparison? Or stud RB Adrian Peterson - rookie running backs traditionally have a much larger impact than QB’s or WR’s so there’s a much larger chance that he’ll actually put up numbers this year.
Maybe Quinn will start and be this year’s Matt Leinart/Vince Young/Jay Cutler by the end of the year. Or maybe he’ll be this year’s Aaron Rogers and we’ll have a new contestant for the worst NFL McFarlane Figure ever made. James Jackson NFL 3 - you’re crown might be challenged…just kidding, no one could ever be a worse choice than you!

Yep, I agree. This was a bad choice but I see why they made it. Yes he is from Notre Dame. But come on. I think the safer pick for the first figure of 2007 Rookies would have been either Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson.

I agree with you, Brady Quinn wasn’t the best idea. Why not make someone who has actually done something in the league like a Stephen Jackson or Phillip Rivers. Wait for Quinn to at least play a game.

Good point. Any word on when McFarlane will make a Stephen Jackson or Phillip Rivers?
